The Mothers' Union |
A visit to the town hall was enjoyed recently, with the members wearing the ceremonial robes |
The Mothers' Union was formed in 1876 by Mary Sumner, who was the wife of a Vicar. The original idea of the Union was to support young mothers and from that small beginning the organisation now has one million members world wide. The Mothers Union is a Christian organisation which promotes the well being of families world wide and is part of the Anglican Church. |
Wigan Parish Church
Our branch consists of about 15 members ranging from 40 to 90 in age and we meet on a Monday at 2pm in the Bluecoat School once a month. Our aims are worship, fellowship, supporting local organisations and having fun. We provide wash bags for the local hospital, baby clothes for the maternity unit, food for a charity that helps young people, clothes and bedding for Women's Refuge as well as supporting our Deanery, Diocesan Mothers' Union and our own Church.
